Tenaga Nasional Bhd (TNB) has appointed Azman Mohd as its new president and chief executive officer effective July 1, succeeding Che Khalib Mohd Noh whose contract is expiring at the end of June.

Azman, 55, who is currently TNB’s executive director and chief operating officer, will be helming the utility giant for three years, said the company in its filing to Bursa Malaysia today.

He started his career at the company in 1979 as an electrical engineer at the Temerloh/Mentakab TNB district office and gradually rose the corporate ladder over the past 31 years, holding several important posts, including as vice-president (distribution) from 2008 to 2010.

When he assumed office in the Distribution Division, he stressed the importance of enhancing customer service via introduction of the customer charter and internal service standard.

Azman is actively involved in the International Conference on Electricity Distribution Malaysia and was appointed chairperson from 2008 to 2010.

He is now involed in establishing the Institute of Asset Management (IAM UK) Malaysian Chapter.

Azman, who completed the Bachelor of Engineering (Electrical Engineering) at the University of Liverpool, United Kingdom, also did his Master’s in Business Administration at Universiti Malaya.
