In a bid to tap the healing benefits of music, the government in south Indian state of Karnataka will promote music therapy in selected government-run hospitals.
 
State Medical Education Minister SA Ramdas said that the plan would revive the age-old system of healing patients through music that has existed for centuries in the country, Press Trust of India reported.

The programme - to be implemented with the support of the National Institute of Mental Health and Neuro Sciences (Nimhans) - will initially be introduced in government hospitals in Shimoga, Hubli, Bangalore and Mysore.

The department had found music therapy beneficial for patients after working on it in the past one year with Nimhans, the minister said.

Music will be broadcast in patients’ wards depending on their behavioural patterns as suggested by experts, he added.
