The body of a policeman who was shot dead while on duty at the Istana Anak Bukit in Alor Setar yesterday evening, will be flown to his home in Malacca after a post-mortem is completed.

Kedah police chief Ahmad Ibrahim said when all matters related to the case in Alor Setar were completed, the body of Constable Mohd Sobri Mohd Sidek, 22, would be sent to the Batu Berendam Camp in Malacca before burial at his home village, Kampung Air Pasir, Manchap Baru.

“The post-mortem is not complete. Only after the post-mortem will we know how many bullets were fired at him,” he said when met by reporters at the Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital’s (HSB) Forensics Unit in Alor Setar today.

In the 5.45pm incident yesterday, Mohd Sobri was believed to have been shot by a colleague at the main entrance guardhouse of the palace.

The suspect, a lance-corporal, was arrested at his wife’s home in Simpang Empat, Perlis, at 8.30pm last night and was brought to Alor Setar to shed light on the case.

Ahmad said following the incident, he gave an assurance that security at the palace would beefed up further and that such an incident would not recur.

Mohd Sobri’s body will be buried at the Kampung Air Pasir Muslim Cemetery.

Among those who offered condolences to the victim’s family were Kedah Menteri Besar Azizan Abdul Razak and HSB director, Dr Juita Ghazalie.
