The appointment of Yayasan Negeri Sembilan (YNS) as the sole agency to manage all signboards in the state was done to coordinate and simplify any related issues regarding the application process of advertisement boards.
Menteri Besar Mohamad Hasan said the advertisers no longer need to go through the local authority but instead they would only need to deal with one agency.
“With this, we could coordinate the billboards to be nicer, stronger, safer and more organised, hence improve the sight of the state in general,” he said while winding up debate on the royal address at the state assembly in Seremban today.
Even though YNS is the sole agency to manage billboards in the state, he said the issue of monopoly does not arise as the company only manages billboards which are on the government’s and local authorities’ land.
Moreover, Mohamad said the annual fee of the billboards was also reduced from RM24,000 to RM18,000, hence benefitting the advertisers.
He added that the price was also much cheaper than some of the opposition states which charged up to RM50,000 per year.
On October last year, the state government had made a decision to shift the power of local authorities for billboards to YNS, which had received protests from a number of advertising firms.
