A Malaysian Airlines Airbus 330 plane with 167 passengers and eight crew aboard made an emergency landing Tuesday in the southern Indian city of Madras due to engine failure, airport officials said.

No one was hurt in the incident, which occurred at 9 am (0330 GMT).

The flight was on its way to Dubai from Kuala Lumpur. Airport officials said the pilot decided to land it after he found only one of the engines was working.

Airport staff were on emergency alert to facilitate the aircraft's safe landing, the officials said.

Alternate arrangements were made for passengers to reach their destination.

Officials said the faulty engine was being checked. - AFP
