The national Pakatan Rakyat leadership council has recommended that its Selangor counterpart should not dissolve the state legislative assembly in tandem with 13th general election.

NONEAt a press conference after the council met at Parliament House today, PKR de facto leader Anwar Ibrahim said the decision was based on the Election Commission's (EC) failure to ensure the integrity of the electoral roll.

"We recommended that Selangor should not hold state-level elections concurrently... We want to wait until the roll is cleaned up," said Anwar.

He pointed to the sudden rise in the number of voters in the state, amounting to about half a million individuals or 35 percent of Selangor voters.

"They (BN) are so paranoid about wanting to wrest the state (from Pakatan)," he said.

Asked if other Pakatan-led states will  withhold concurrent polls, Anwar said he is not happy with conditions there either “.... but Selangor is the most worrisome".   

Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak is widely expected to call for snap polls in June or September.

However, the four Pakatan-held states are not obliged to dissolve their respective legislative assemblies until their terms expire.

Selangor, which has been clearly identified as BN's main target, has experienced an exponential growth in the number of voters since 2008, particularly in rural areas.

This, along with claims of a Selangor-wide citizenship-for-votes scam, has fuelled suspicions of electoral roll padding among Pakatan component parties.
