The Selangor government said it has approved 150 infrastructure projects under its Geran Selangorku programme, made possible after the state had retrieved an outstanding debt from Talam Corporation Sdn Bhd.

“Geran Selangorku’s allocation of RM300 million ... is the result of the state administration’s success in collecting on the debts of Talam that has now been channeled back to the rakyat (through the programme,” said Selangor MB Khalid Ibrahim.

NONEHe was speaking at an event to explain the programme in Sungai Ayer Tawar, Sabak Bernam yesterday, according to a statement by the MB’s Office today.

Talam's decade-old debt amounting to RM392 million, which was previously never recorded by the corporation, was incurred through joint-property development with Selangor agencies like Kumpulan Hartanah Selangor Sdn Bhd, Universiti Industri Selangor and Permodalan Negeri Selangor Bhd.

Khalid (above, in white) said the programme will be unrolled in four phases. The first phase comprises 19 projects that will be implemented shortly, upon completion of the selection of contractors.

NONEProjects worth RM5.4 million have been approved for phases 1 and 2, while the latter phases are still under negotiation.

The projects for the programme include roadworks, street lighting, drainage, mosque upgrading, and sports facilities like futsal courts, added the MB.

Of the 150 projects, Shah Alam local council has received the most with 29, followed by Klang (27) and Sabak Bernam and Kuala Selangor (15 each).

In terms of state constituencies, Sri Muda received the largest cut with 31 projects, followed by Meru (20), Telok Datok (13), Morib (14) and Selat Klang (7).
