Stay away from Dataran, urges FT MCA leader

your sayDisgusted: If the Bersih 3.0 rally is held at Dataran Merdeka, it will not disrupt business in Kuala Lumpur as the area is quite enclosed and secluded. It is a Saturday so most offices are closed.

The only business around there are eateries and retail shops in Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman which are outside the Dataran area, and these are bound to have a great increase in business as the people participating will be patronising them.

If traffic is blocked at Dayabumi side and the Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman near PH Hendry building and not allowed into Dataran area, it will not severely affect traffic flow and cause problems for city dwellers as suggested by Federal Territories MCA Youth chief Chiew Lian Keng.

The only problem will be if the police lock down the city and prevent participants from going there and chase people all around Kuala Lumpur with water cannons and tear gas. The police were the sole cause for the mayhem of Bersih 2.0.

Hmmmmmmmm: Is Chiew reading from a prepared script? How come they all sound the same - business will be affected, traffic will be affected, taxi drivers affected.

So the rights of the citizens for clean and fair elections is not important?

To make it easy for BN, why don't they suggest some isolated island away from the mainland where protesters can assemble and shout all they like where nobody else can be affected. That would be ideal for BN, won't it?

In a democratic country, nothing is more important than having a government which is legitimately elected by the people. This can only happen if we have clean and fair elections.

Chris Wong: I have not heard of any protest that is meant not to disturb anyone. Having a protest means you are disturbing people.

And you are disturbing them to highlight your issues and bring it to the fore - that is, disturbing the people to address disturbing problems with our electoral system.

Cannon: Umno's cows are having a gala time staying in condos bought with taxpayers' money. MCA has nothing to say about corruption, even as our country is brought to its knees by the rampant plundering, but is concerned about traffic jams.

It says a lot about MCA. It is of no bloody use to the Chinese community it claims to represent.

Rakyat Malaysia: Affecting the rights of other Malaysian? You know who? Our government is the culprit - including you. You are asking us not to exercise our rights to express our views? What are you afraid of?

The police are supposed to help monitor and direct traffic. I bet you if the police (and Perkasa) didn't do anything, it will be a peaceful sit-in. I hope Perkasa will not come in to create trouble.

Chill: Chew your words, Chiew Lian Keng! Because of the historical significance, Dataran Merdeka is the most appropriate place for people to assemble for a cause that will benefit the entire nation.

Traffic problems for city dwellers is not anything new, we have that practically every other day.

On certain occasions, the authorities warn the public to bypass the Dataran when celebrations are held and just another day of inconvenience is not going to make any difference.

Well, if it was an Umno agenda, I bet you will be all for it, wouldn't you?

Boiling Mud: Chiew Lian Keng, don't worry your little head sick about the rakyat being inconvenient by the rally on April 28.

We will put up with all the inconveniences as long as we can make Malaysia a better place to live in.

Don't you want your children and theirs to have a fair and just government care-taking the country they own and they live in, or you are just too short-sighted to think only of the crumbs your masters sweep on to the floor for you?

James1067: Dataran is paid by the taxpayers money and also a historical place in our struggle for independence. What Bersih is asking is a free and clean elections. They are not asking to let the opposition win.

The future of the children's and grandchildren's future is at stake here. History have to be created and this is the right venue. If we are destroyed financially there won't be enough even for these buisness in this area to survive in the future.

So stop accusing the opposition as who will win will be decided by the people and not PAS, DAP or PKR.

Lin Wenquan: So MCA has assumed the mantle of spokesman for their master. What is the 'negative economic impact' if any, compared to the billions siphoned off through misappropriation and mismanagement of which MCA is equally culpable?

Petty hawkers will be doing a roaring business. What traffic problems? It is the police road blocks that create the problems.

Bersih's aspirations for a fair and clean election has captured the hearts and minds of true egalitarian Malaysians. Pakatan need not hijack the cause. Pakatan is merely endorsing Bersih's noble aims and need not fish for votes.

The people have decided how to cast their vote. All the more, assembling at Dataran will further enhance its 'historical significance' because Malaysians can invoke the spirit of Merdeka to shake off the yoke of corruption, inequality, racial polarisation and religious intolerance that prevails. One Hand Cover The Sky: Almost every year, we had our Merdeka celebrations at Dataran Merdeka and many also gather there on New Year's eve to usher in the new year.

The police should do their job properly to control the flow of traffic on that particular day as what they have done in past events which was held at Dataran Merdeka.

So, what is this Federal Territory MCA Youth chief suddenly so concern about traffic flows that affect city dwellers?
