A commotion broke out in the Perak state assembly sitting today which ended with Chan Ming Kai (PKR-Simpang Pulai) being ordered to leave the state assembly hall.

NONE Chan ( right ) had earlier argued and asked for an explanation on why his written questions were left unanswered by the relevant state executive council (exco)members during the question time.

In his explanation, speaker R Ganesan said for each question to be answered, it must be relevant.

“According to the assembly’s Standing Order 23 (1)(a), no name should be mentioned in the question and hence, the question should not be answered,” he explained.

Dissatisfied with the explanation, Chan went up to the speaker’s podium and continued arguing with the speaker as well as government backbenchers, before he was ordered to leave the hall.

“Simpang Pulai assemblyperson, please leave the hall now,” Ganesan said sternly.

It is learnt that Chan was dissatisfied because four out of his five written questions on logging, quarry, agriculture and public infrastructure were not given proper answers by the relevant exco members.

Chan's action unnecessary

Meanwhile, Menteri Besar Zambry Abdul Kadir has described Chan's action as unnecessary.

He said the assemblyman should not have caused such chaos only because his written questions were left unanswered by the relevant state executive council member at the time.

"I don't know why he (Chan) did that and it surprised me... he should have not done so because only the Speaker can be there (podium).

"Even if he is angry he should not have gone overboard," he told reporters after the sitting.

He said it was normal for some questions given to exco members to be unanswered as it was the government's right to decide.

Ganesan, when met, said he acted according to assembly standing order 23 (1)(f) which states that some matters could not be answered as they were deemed confidential.

"Therefore the question was left unanswered... when I gave him a chance to sit down he approached the podium so I had to order him to leave the sitting," he said.
