The Malaysian Civil Volunteers Corps (Rela) has formed a Youth Unit for volunteers between 18 and 25, as a speedy back up for the organisation.

Rela director-general Mustafa Ibrahim said that youths have been keen on joining them the past two years.

"This positive trend encouraged us to form the youth unit last week to enable them to serve the country," he told reporters after a dialogue session with Besut Rela members and local residents at Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Kuala Besut today.

Present at the event were Health, Unity and State Affairs Committee chairman and Kuala Besut assemblyman Dr. Abdul Rahman Mokhtar, and acting state Rela director Muhammad Abu Bakar.

Mustafa further noted that there were 2.93 million Rela members nation wide with more new recruits every year.
