Hindraf distances itself from Uthayakumar

your say Jiminy Qrikert: Hero worship makes sense only when the 'hero' has really, actually, in reality achieved successes in all that the hero championed.

If all the hero has been able to do is make rosy, impractical promises that include suing the British Empire, winning RM1 million award for every single Indian in Malaysia, holding to ransom both Pakatan Rakyat and BN and reaching for the heavens while standing on hollow shifting ground, but now with such grandiose visions largely a distant figment of the imagination with nothing to show except failure in efforts to galvanise even the 'Indian community' to fight for a common cause towards liberating the masses from the yoke of the current oppressive regime, then this kind of hero worship is as good as the star-struck idolisation of make-believe celluloid legends.

It is wise of Hindraf to separate the celluloid fantasy world of a past-time hero from the real world struggle to make a real change, breaking from the past and forging a new future for all Malaysians.

Ruben: Good move, Hindraf. P Uthayakumar is trying to also do a kind RPK ‘holier than thou' role.

Angela55: Uthaya is a key man to Hindraf's struggle. However, he is a hard-headed man. He has been used to playing the game all alone for a long time.

Of late, he seemed to have abandoned his Human Rights Party and trying to take control of Hindraf in a one-man dictator-style of leadership. The rift has been obvious for about one year since his stand against Bersih.

P Waythamoorthy has a different approach altogether. He is more sensible and has been leading the movement for years from exile successfully.

Anonymous #10359043: The split has been obvious for some time now. Uthaya has lost the original struggle of Hindraf after he formed the Human Rights Party.

The day he was released, he took advantage of the innocent people who supported him. He has been missing from all main Hindraf activities.

He was never seen at Hindraf annual conventions, the conference held jointly with minorities, joint forums on racial discrimination with Suaram and other NGOs, etc.

Uthaya is a good man but arrogance has stopped him from being part of the collective decision-making. For Hindraf leaders to have waited this long must have been difficult.

Enthiran: Who is P Ramesh think he is! Does he has same standing as Uthayakumar to give such a stupid statement?

Uthaya, we are with you. You are the true hero who was arrested under ISA for voicing out for our ‘makkal'.

Anonymous #38487059: It's sad to note that people only notice the mistakes made by others. No amount of sacrifice or bloodshed is ever remembered.

I agree that Uthaya may have blundered in the manner he handled this particular case. However, it does not give licence to others to insult or condemn him.

Ramesh should have discussed this matter internally and not publicly. It appears that he is also looking for publicity. Let's not forget that Uthaya spent 500 days in jail for fighting for Indian rights.

Hindraf has played its role and can do better with unity amongst themselves rather than having an internal power struggle. Please open your eyes and mind and be more sensible in future.

Fairnessforall: Well done Hindraf, at least now you guys have made your stand clear. I have for a long time now realised that Uthaya is just a power-hungry man, using the Indians for his personal agenda, nothing more.

Ferdtan: The myth of 'Uthayakumar is Hindraf, and Hindraf is Uthayakumar' is now scattered by his lieutenants. Uthaya's ego is sure to be deflated as he - in his own eyes could do no wrong - got criticised by his subordinates.

Would he go the same way of forming another BN-friendly like MMSP (Malaysia Makkal Sakti Party) led by former Hindraf national coordinator, RS Thanenthiren?

All is not well in Hindraf. Go back to basic - fight evil. Bring back the spirit of the light of Diwali - 'the triumph of good over evil'. Destroy the evil demon, 'Narakasura'.

God would then reward all Malaysians, including Indians.

Unless Hindraf is really very strong per se, Uthaya should not go around making threats and demands to gain attention, not especially in a plural society like Malaysia.

Yes, there is a grave concern for the plight on poor Indians, but there is even a greater concern for the plight of the largely poor Malaysians. It is all about distribution of wealth across the board.

Shanandoah: Indians can never go it alone in multiracial Malaysia. Haven't they learnt this lesson for over half a century while being part of the BN government? They have been robbed of everything and reduced to beggary in their own land.

Now they are told to believe in 'nambikei' while further being marginalised. The recent appointments and promotions in the judiciary is proof that 'nambikei' is nonsense for the Indian community.

Their only hope is to join and support a multiracial party that fights for all marginalised and poor people in the country. HRP should not make demands only for one community. Those days are long gone.

Petestop: The problem with Uthaya is that he still has not learn to work with others, and that includes the leaders in Hindraf.

In this world, you have to learn to cooperate with others, otherwise, you are just a lonely person, and nobody cares.
