The Selangor government has approved an immediate allocation of RM5 million for a flood mitigation project in Klang town, Menteri Besar Abdul Khalid Ibrahim said today.

He said the project was necessary taking into account the flash floods that hit Klang on March 30, namely in Kampug Delek, Telok Gadong, parts of Pandamaran, Kota Alam Shah, Selat Kelang and Taman Seri Andalas.

“Research and studies have been conducted by the relevant parties on floods which hit Klang and we need to prioritise the areas involved.

“The state has found that more than RM20 million is needed for flood mitigation in Klang alone and the RM5 million is the initial allocation.

“We expect the flood mitigation to start next week,” he told reporters after attending the Selangor Economic Action Council meeting in Shah Alam today.

Abdul Khalid said the state government had also approved an allocation of  RM3 million to assist about 2,500 families affected by the floods, with each household getting RM500.
