Police have remanded seven People’s Volunteer Corps (Rela) members for seven days from today to facilitate in the investigation into the death of a Nigerian man at the Venice Hills Condominium in Batu 9, Hulu Langat yesterday.

Kajang police chief Asst Comm Ab Rashid Ab Wahab said the Nigerian man was allegedly beaten to death by the Rela officers.

However, he said the police were still waiting for the post-mortem report on the victim to ascertain the actual cause of death.

At the same time, he said the police were also investigating the riot caused by almost 200 Africans in front of the condominium yesterday following the death of the man.

“So far, no action was taken against the Africans who ran riot yesterday, we are still investigating... we have also deployed several policemen to conduct patrols in the area to prevent untoward incidents,” he told Bernama when contacted in Kuala Lumpur today.

Yesterday, a Nigerian, Onochie Martins Nwankwo, 35, was allegedly beaten to death by Rela officers after he was accused of molesting a local woman at the condominium.

The incident caused almost 200 Africans to confront the officers and destroy the guardhouse at the condominium.
