WWWOW awards: Picture this... or that!

Tell a powerful story about a real-life subject in a photograph, and be ‘Malaysiakini Photojournalist of the Year'.
It's no cliché that a picture paints a thousand words, or even a million words. Many a time, photographs have brought out a story of life, or of a person or community in a way that could never be articulated in writing.
With this in mind, Malaysiakini is proud to sponsor one of 15 DiGi WWWOW Awards, to recognise a photographer who tells a moving and powerful story about a real-life subject.
The ‘Malaysiakini Photojournalist of the Year' Award is open to professional or amateur photojournalists, independent hobbyists and just about anyone who is in the right place at the right time with a camera.
All you have to do is record a true/real event that is unique, relevant and new, and which will captivate an audience.
This should highlight a particular community, trend, event, person or even a place that entices the audience to want to know more. Creativity and composition counts - the trick is to get that perfect composition that tells your story perfectly.
Just point, shoot and log in through Facebook or Twitter to upload entries. You may submit a maximum of three photographs per entry, and share these on your Facebook page as well.
The competition, which was launched this week, will close on April 22. Winners will be announced at the Awards Night, on June 9.
Popularity votes count, too
As with the other 14 categories in this year's DiGi WWWOW awards, the photojournalism entries will be assessed by a panel of judges.
They will also take into account popularity votes via social network platforms such as Facebook and Twitter, recorded from April 23 to May 13. A voting button will be made available on the competition website during that period.
The DiGi WWWOW awards is the first and only 'Internet for all' awards. This is the second year that the contest is being organised.
It's aim is to pay tribute to creativity, ingenuity and entrepreneurialism of ordinary Malaysians using the Internet and social media platforms in extraordinary way, with its wide scope to include bloggers and micro-bloggers, charities, start-ups, techies, events, music and apps, to name a few.
The event and list of sponsors were announced at a press conference hosted at DiGi's corporate office D'House in Shah Alam Industrial Park last Saturday.
