Hasan recycles personal attacks against Azmin

Gombak Setia state assemblyperson Hasan Ali has hurled a slew of counter-allegations at PKR deputy president Azmin Ali, in the wake of Azmin’s claims against him.

"Since I am willing to answer Azmin's allegations, now it's my turn to ask him to answer my questions as the rakyat in this state are curious, after years of silence from him," Hasan told reporters at his home in Kuala Lumpur this afternoon.

He listed five issues that warrant a public explanation from Azmin:

1. To reveal his sources of income as he is alleged, along with his wife, to have purchased RM2 million worth of shares between 1992 and 1994, at a time when his pay was believed to be only RM2,000

2. To answer a claim by Yayasan Pembangunan India Malaysia chairperson SA Vickneswaran, that Azmin, his wife and a relative had shares worth up to RM8.5 million in the early 1990s

3. To respond to claims by Azmin's sister Umi Hafilda that he has not visited his mother for eight months, and is on the verge of severing his relationship with her

4. To clarify the allegation in a book entitled Tuhan, Politik dan Seks by Syed Hussin Al-Attas that he (Azmin) was aware of intimate relations between his wife and Anwar Ibrahim

5. To respond to a challenge to undergo a DNA test to verify that he is the biological father of his daughter

None of these allegations are new - some were answered or denied years ago.

The claim that Azmin (left) is not the biological father of his daughter was made in book entitled 50 reasons why Anwar Ibrahim cannot be prime minister, but was rebutted in court after a chemist confirmed in 2001 that Azmin is indeed the biological father.

Azmin, had in 2009, dismissed Vickneswaran's allegation as a malicious attempt to smear his reputation. Anwar had defended Azmin, stating this had been investigated in 1998.

However, Hasan said Azmin lacked the credibility or locus standi to criticise his integrity.

"To date, I am free of any wrongdoing in any court of law or (through) any investigation by any authorities, but Azmin is still facing investigations by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) and the police," he said.

'Pot calling the kettle black'

Hasan said the Selangor government, too, was facing a crisis of integrity, alleging that a senior official in the state treasury was involved in irregularities.

He said state-owned companies had stumped up about RM250,000 a year for the official's holiday expenses.

"When excos go overseas, this is managed by Selangor Tourism. (As for) this person, I was informed that he has never used (the service),” Hasan claimed.

“Instead he uses a company (name withheld pending verification) ... imagine this company is getting RM250,000.”

He also said the official is Selangor Menteri Besar Khalid Ibrahim’s ‘right-hand man’.

The individual, he said, has abused his position on the board of state-owned companies by using company vehicles for private use, for example.

Asked if he would lodge a MACC report about this, Hasan shot back:  "You can't expect me to do everything... The media has its investigative unit, I leave it to you all.”
