The parliamentary select committee (PSC) on the Lynas Advanced Materials Plant project will be set up even though it does not have representatives from the opposition, said Lynas PSC chairperson Khaled Nordin.

NONEHe said the committee was established to study the issue of the rare earth factory in Gebeng, Pahang based on the truth, knowledge and scientific research as the people wanted certainty on the matter.

"Whether the opposition agrees or not, the committee will be set up... we will do our best as entrusted on us," he told reporters after launching the Sungai Siput Community College as a Automative Industry Hub and a Strategic Collaboration programme in Sungai Siput today.

Khaled said the roles and reponsibilities of the committee will be implemented when the list of committee members was announced in Parliament.

"We were given three months to carry out the responsibility, and we would be informed by Parliament when we start.

"As we have been informed the opposition does not want to be involved or cooperate, Parliament might take more time to decide on the committee members," he said.

Last week, the cabinet was reported to have given the green light to the establishment of the PSC and Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Mohd Nazri Abdul Aziz was reported as saying that the committee would he headed by Khaled with four members from BN, three opposition and one independent.
