The opposition plan to boycott the parliamentary select committee (PSC) on Lynas project was made because they fear the truth.

Jempol MP Lilah Yassin said the opposition feared that PSC would find proof that Lynas rare earth project in Gebang, Pahang, is actually safe.

"This will surely cost them a lot of votes," he said when commenting a statement by Kuantan MP Fuziah Salleh yesterday that the opposition would not join PSC as it was unfair.

Pasir Salak MP Tajuddin Abdul Rahman concurred with Lilah that the move shows that they are insincere in finding the truth but only want to manipulate the issue for their own interests.

He said that the boycott of PSC was a strategy by the opposition to thwart government efforts to establish the committee.

"If they participate in this committee, they have to accept all decisions or proof of the truth.

"So to avoid being trapped, they decided to boycott as when it is positive, they argue that the decision was manipulated by the Barisan Nasional government," he said.

Kalabakan MP Abdul Ghapur Salleh said the opposition should join PSC if they really want to champion the people's cause as claimed.

He said this is because PSC will conduct a transparent investigation from all angles and what can and can't be done in the name of common interest.
