Khalid explains why YBK land won't be returned

Selangor Menteri Besar Abdul Khalid Ibrahim said among the reasons for the Yayasan Basmi Kemiskinan (YBK) land seized by the state government not to be returned to the poverty-eradication foundation was because the quit rent settlement came from another party.

Khalid said the state government's decision remained although YBK had paid the arrears amounting to RM5.7 million in 2010 with the help of Yayasan Melaka.
"As the payee is not the land owner, we have to consider this in order to avoid complications in terms of ownership in future," he told reporters after the state assembly sitting adjourned for tomorrow.
Khalid was earlier asked why the land in Serendah was not returned to YBK after it had paid up the tax owing.
On March 14, Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak said the transformation programme to eradicate poverty to be carried out by the foundation was facing constraints as the Pakatan Rakyat-controlled state government had seized the land belonging to the foundation.
The state government decided to confiscate the 191 hectares belonging to YBK in 2010 although the arrears of RM5.7 million was settled by the foundation with the help of Yayasan Melaka.
However, the state government refused to accept the payment and returned the money to Yayasan Melaka.
Besides the seizure, a caveat was placed on another 324 hectares of land belonging to YBK, hence the foundation is unable to carry out any development on the land.
