Applicants who failed to receive the 1Malaysia People's Aid (BR1M) can appeal as the period for its application has been extended to the end of this month, said Second Finance Minister Ahmad Husni Hanadzlah.

He said the application forms filed earlier would also be reviewed to ensure applicants who really qualified were  not left out of the RM500 cash assistance.

"Earlier, the government decided on March 15 as the last day for individual applicants who were unsuccesful to receive the assistance. We will continue to consider to ensure every eligible applicant obtains the aid.

"We did not set a deadline for applicants but I hope by the end of March, the majority of those involved would have appealed as in April, the processing agency, the Inland Revenue Board (IRB) will be involved in the collection of national income tax," he said.

He was speaking to reporters after performing the ground-breaking ceremony for a library in Chemor near here today.

Husni said through the appeal applications, 90 per cent of the 200,000 applicants were successful and the failure of the others was due to technical problems, most of which were later rectified.
