The cumulative number of hand, foot and mouth disease (HFMD) cases in Sarawak reached 3,029 after 59 more new ones were
reported today.

Sarawak health director Dr Zulkifli Jantan today said 19 of the new cases were reported in Kuching, Bintulu (seven), Samarahan (six), Miri (five), Sarikei, Limbang and Sri Aman (four each), Kapit, Sibu and Mukah (three each) and Betong (one).

Of the total number of cases, 213 required admissions but no serious cases were recorded so far.

Meanwhile, Sarawak education director Abdillah Adam said health screening would be conducted at the entrance of all schools in the state when the school term starts next week.

He said the move was part of the preventive measures to curb the spread of HFMD.
