Federal opposition coalition Pakatan Rakyat is still undecided over its own proposal to hold state elections in Kedah, Kelantan, Penang and Selangor separately from the upcoming general election.

This is despite the matter being discussed in the meeting of the Pakatan leadership council in Parliament house today.

“On the matter of separate state polls which was discussed today, we decided that we need to talk to the Selangor MB... and discuss with the chief executives of all other Pakatan-led states,” said Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng at a press conference in Parliament House today.

He spoke to reporters after attending the Pakatan meeting.

“We will coordinate as soon as possible... All four (state chief executives) shall meet together to discuss the matter,” related opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim, who was also at the press conference.

Asked on the details of whether the opposition will recommend to hold state elections one by one or concurrently together, Anwar said that such details need to be discussed by the state chief executives in the meeting.

Quizzed about seat allocation discussions between the opposition parties, the Pakatan leaders said that it is in the final stages.

“There are only some small things to settle. Once I meet with (PKR deputy president) Azmin Ali then it is done,” joked PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang.

Anwar assured reporters that in the interim the seat allocations shall be done by the end of this month.

He pointed out that even the BN is still busy with their own seat allocation discussion which is far from concluded.
