The cumulative number of hand, foot and mouth disease (HFMD) cases in Sarawak rose to 2,532 after 120 new cases were reported today by the state health department.

The department said in a statement that 51 of the new cases were reported in Kuching.

Eleven of the new cases were admitted to hospital, seven of them in Kuching and two each in Bintulu and Sibu, it said.

A total of 54 schools, pre-schools and childcare centres have been closed temporarily since the outbreak of the disease at the end of February.

However, no cases have been classified as serious.
