Leaders in the opposition pact will meet on Tuesday (March 13) to decide whether to hold the election in states under their control simultaneously for the general election.

DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng said the meeting would be held in Kuala Lumpur.

He said the announcement by Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak on the salary adjustments for the 1.3 million civil servants today was a sign that the general election would be soon.

It is a sign that the general election is near, perhaps after the installation of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong on April 12 or possibly in May, he told reporters after attending the closing of the forum for Indonesia-Malaysia-Thailand growth triangle (IMT-GT) Chief Ministers and Governors at a hotel in Malacca today.

 While confirming that he would continue to contest in Penang, Lim, who is Penang Chief Minister, said DAP would work hard to retain all the seats which the party had won.

 On Nov 17 last year, Selangor Menteri Besar Abdul Khalid Ibrahim said the Selangor government would not dissolve the state assembly if the federal government dissolved parliament early this year.

The opposition pact, comprising Parti Keadilan Rakyat, DAP and PAS, controls Penang, Kedah and Kelantan after winning the states in the 2008 general election.
