Guan Eng: I won't hang on to post for too long

Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng said he will not break the record of his predecessor Gerakan chief Koh Tsu Koon who led the state as chief minister for 18 years.

In an exclusive interview with the Chinese daily China Press, Lim (right) admitted that he has reached the peak of his political career after assuming the state’s top post for four years, but he will not hold the post as long as Koh did.
“I leave it to the people of Penang,” he said.
On whether DAP will emulate PKR’s election manifesto during last year’s Sarawak election to cap the tenure of the chief minister to three terms, the DAP secretary-general replied: “We never discussed about it.”
Lim brushed off the allegation that he is an autocratic leader who has outshined other state exco members, arguing that it is a perception created by Umno.
On his colleagues’ view that he should give up more administrative powers to portray the state cabinet’s image as a team, Lim said it was an impression created by media, which often put the focus on him.
“A chief minister has to show concern to everything and visit various places. I have to attend many events, including those related to agriculture or even sports. This is my job scope.
“Rival parties attack me and not the other exco members, so I have to keep defending myself and this creates the perception,” the daily quoted Lim.
Zambry denies Husni eyeing MB post
In a separate newspaper interview, Perak Menteri Besar Zambry Abdul Kadir (left) dismissed the rumour that Second Finance Minister Ahmad Husni Mohamad Hanadzlah will replace him as the next menteri besar in the coming general election.
“I will not follow the tune of those who purposely twist the facts. Obviously, the opposition has run out of issues, so they spread the rumour that there is panic within BN, but we are not bothered by them,” he told the Chinese newspaper Oriental Daily News in an exclusive interview.
Ahmad Husni is also the MP for Tambun, Perak.
Asked whether he was confident of continuing his second term, Zambry declined comment except to say that it was in the hands of Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak.
The Pangkor assemblyperson also denied the rumour that he is having problems working with senior exco member Hamidah Osman, who is apparently aligned to another Umno faction.
He reiterated that it was an issue created by the opposition to confuse the people.
