MCA today unleashed another wave of attack against DAP claiming that the opposition party was maintaining a secret political pact with PAS for the coming general election.

MCA deputy resident Chan Kong Choy said although DAP asserted that it had disassociated itself from PAS, there were still DAP members serving in the PAS-controlled Terengganu government.

"DAP leaders are still serving as district and municipal councillors. This is a big act. If there are three-cornered fights in Ipoh Timur and Bukit Gelugor, then I would believe there is no pact.

"I bet my last dollar that they are working closely," he was quoted as saying in a Bernama report.

The Ipoh Timur and Bukit Gelugor parliamentary constituencies were initially slated for triangular fights between DAP, Keadilan and Barisan Nasional (BN).

DAP will be fielding its chairperson Lim Kit Siang and his deputy Karpal Singh for the respective seats.

Following eleventh hour negotiations, Keadilan - which together with PAS forms the Barisan Alternatif (BA) - decided to withdraw from the two seats.

However, yesterday Keadilan criticised DAP for reneging on its promise to withdraw from three state seats, but the latter claimed that no such agreement was reached.

DAP was also a member of the BA but left the opposition front in 2001 over differences with PAS regarding its aim to establish an Islamic state should it come into power.

Since then the party has been actively campaigning against the Islamic state aims of both PAS and the version announced by ex-premier Dr Mahathir Mohamad.

'Creating lies'

Meanwhile, DAP secretary-general Kerk Kim Hock had a few caustic remarks about MCA's accusation of a 'secret pact' between the two opposition parties.

"MCA will never stop creating lies to fish votes. We have clarified this issue many times but MCA still uses their own arguments and not our explanations," he said when contacted.

On Chan's statement that three-cornered fights will prove there were no ties, Kerk said: "If there are three-cornered fights, they will then claim that these are just gimmicks."

"It (the accusations) will never end and you can never answer a liar because he will always say it is a lie," added the secretary-general.

On the councillors serving in Terengganu, he said they were told to resign after PAS released its Islamic state document in order not to contradict with their party's struggle for a secular democracy.
