The Malaysian Malay Consultative Council (MPM) today suggested the government to make it compulsory for Malaysians to register as voters when they reach the age of 21.

MPM committee member and president of the Gagasan Melayu Perak, Mohd Hilmi Ismail, said this followed the disclosure by the Election Commission (EC) that 3.7 million people had yet to register as voters.
It is shocking and action should be taken by the government to address this because many of them are the young people, he told Bernama after the third MPM annual conference today.

On the MPM conference, he said, they discussed current issues which touched on various topics, including religion, race, the royal institution and the Malay rights.
