Kedah Housing, Local Government, Works and Water Supply Committee chairperson Amiruddin Hamzah said he had replied to the letter from Kuala Kedah PAS over his accepting the reappointment as state exco member although he had been instructed not to accept it.

He therefore regards the case involving him in the Kuala Kedah issue as resolved after replying to the letter sent to him by the division secretary yesterday.

“I did not expect problems to arise over my post in PAS. But I consider the matter settled after replying to the letter,” he said after opening the 3rd Kedah Education Exposition at Sultan Abdul Halim Stadium in Alor Setar today.

He was commenting on Kuala Kedah PAS’ action of giving him an ultimatum after he went against the decision made at the division committee meeting on Feb 24 in support of division chief Phahrolrazi Zawawi who turned down the reappointment as state exco member and for all assemblypersons in the Kuala Kedah constituency to reject the appointment.

Amiruddin, who is also Kuala Kedah PAS deputy chief, was among eight state exco members who accepted their reappointment for the 2012/2013 term, while two others including Phahrolrazi had written to Menteri Besar Azizan Abdul Razak stating that they declined the reappointment.

Amiruddin said in his letter he asked that he be allowed to state his stand and opinion on the issue.

“I have replied to the letter and I don’t intend to reveal the contents. This is like a family matter and I feel my position in PAS will not be affected and that they accept my explanation,” he said.

Amiruddin said the content of the letter he received was not like what had been speculated (he being given an ultimatum) but was in fact, polite.

“Therefore, I felt I should reply in the same tone,” he added.

Asked about the people’s (PAS supporters) sentiments towards him after what happened, he said: “There may be different reactions from the grassroots, but I think when the issue has died down, the situation will return to normal.”
