The Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) has denied rumours that it is on the verge being deregistered purportedly due to irregularities in last year’s branch elections and triennial delegates conference.

Its president, Peter Chin, said news, rumours and text messages which have been circulating so far had not affected his work as party president and a minister.

“So far, no word from the Registrar of Societies and I still continue to work as party president and a federal minister,” he told reporters after visiting the proposed site for the construction of SK Tudan Jaya, SMK Tudan and SMK Kuala Baram in Miri today.

Earlier the media asked Chin, who is Miri MP and Energy, Green Technology and Water Minister, on the circulation of text messages claiming that the SUPP would be deregistered and that its line-up would be replaced.

This has sparked speculations that the state’s oldest party may see a change of leadership as early as this week, two months after Chin was elected unopposed as party president.
