The Economic Planning Unit (EPU) of the Prime Minister’s Department will be restructured this year to enhance its effectiveness amid the challenging economic situation.

Nor Mohamed Yakcop, Minister in the Department, said a restructured EPU would be able to formulate strategies to face the rapidly changing situation the country faces.

“The restructuring involves realigning sections under their respective deputy director-general, and will enable the unit to be more focused and optimise deployment of existing staff by redistributing work tasks,” he said when addressing the unit’s monthly assembly in Kuala Lumpur today.

Nor Mohamed said the uncertain global economy especially in Europe affects the government’s efforts to realise the national economic growth target set earlier.

He urged all EPU staff to redouble efforts to ensure the country is on the right track to achieve high-income status by 2020.
