Fistfights at Anwar's Malacca ceramah

Opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim's ceramah at a Felda settlement in Alor Gajah, Malacca, yesterday evening was marred by a fistfight between supporters of PKR and BN.
About 50 BN supporters "purposely provoked" the attendees, Malay daily Sinar Harian reported today, saying they did not want the PKR de facto leader to "instigate" the villagers and cause a rift among them.
According to the daily, the situation became tense after both factions began quarrelling while Anwar was speaking on stage. One of the BN supporters was "punched" and this led to the fracas.
A BN supporter at the scene, Nizam Baharom, blamed the fight on an "aggressive PKR supporter" who punched one of his colleagues.
The brawl, which took place around 5.45pm at Felda Tun Ghaffar in Hutan Pecah, Alor Gajah, was defused soon after by the police.
Alor Gajah district police chief Umar Ali Saifuddin Shaharudin said the melee unfolded as a result of dissatisfaction over Anwar's visit and that no arrest was made.
Meanwhile, in Sabah, Kota Belud MP Abdul Rahman Dahlan said Anwar had failed to show how he would raise oil royalty for Sabah from five percent to 20 percent.
The New Straits Times today reports Rahman as saying that Anwar had failed to give a guarantee, when asked in Parliament, that he would not cut allocations for other non-oil producing states in order to do this.
"So, it is very likely that Sabah may be getting higher oil royalty but in the end may get lower overall funds from the federal government under him," the paper quoted him as saying in Kota Kinabalu.
