Pahang PAS has directed all its members to turn up in support of the Feb 26 Himpunan Hijau 2.0 rally to protest against the Lynas rare earth project.

State PAS secretary Roslan Zainal Al-Ahmadi said the rally at the MPK 1 field in Kuantan is held to oppose the project which could bring detrimental effects to the rakyat.
 
“The protest is also in line with the protection of the environment as advocated by the United Nations. I, on behalf of PAS, urge all members of Pakatan Rakyat in Pahang to attend the peaceful gathering,” Roslan said.

NONEPahang PAS commissioner Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man, who is also party information chief, will also attend the gathering.

At a Pakatan meeting held yesterday, it was announced that the top Pakatan leaders would also attend the gathering.

The rally has also received a surprise welcome from Pahang MB Adnan Yaakob, who said it is in the spirit of democracy.

The Star reported that he said that protest would be a “lively event” and that 20,000 protesters are “too little”.

“The organisers should bring more. The more the merrier... I also want to join. Maybe I will go and say ‘hello’ to the demonstrators on that day,” he was reported as saying.

It was reported last week that political parties and civil society groups such as Parti Sosialis Malaysia, Parti Rakyat Malaysia, Bersih 2.0, Anything But Umno, Solidariti Anak Muda Malaysia and Saya Anak Bangsa Malaysia will also attend the rally.

According to Himpunan Hijau 2.0 publicity chief Lee Chean Chung, all these groups have pledged their support and their leaders will also join the rally

Among those who have confirmed attendance are national laureate A Samad Said and Bersih 2.0 chairperson Ambiga Sreenevasan.
