The doctor who tried to resuscitate taxi driver Baharuddin Ahmad during the Bersih 2.0 rally last July has not ruled out the possibility that he may have been kicked and punched.

NONE"It is possible. But I cannot say for sure," Dr Murnizar Murad told coroner Zulkpli Abdullah on the fourth day of the inquest.

The 13th inquest witness, she was responding to questions from lawyer Mohd Jufliz Faiza representing Baharuddin’s (left) family, who asked for the possible causes of the injuries to Baharuddin's face, as well as broken teeth and fractured ribs.

Murnizar said the proper person to evaluate such matters would be a forensic pathalogist.

She also did not rule out the possibility that the injuries to the teeth and mouth may have been caused by the use of medical instruments during the resuscitation effort, or that the ribs may have been injured during the administration of cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR).

She also admitted that she would not be able to distinguish if a cracked rib was damaged during the CPR or from being kicked.

The emergency room doctor said that if a person was injured in the ribs, it is possible that the lungs may in turn be injured as the broken bone may affect the breathing organ.

She also told the inquest that a person whose ribs were broken may still be able to run, though he or she will be in acute pain.

Murnizar said she was not aware of - and did not examine Baharuddin further for - signs of injuries as she was focused on resuscitating him and monitoring signs of life.

Baharuddin collapsed and died during the rally in Kuala Lumpur on July 9 last year.

The police have claimed that he suffered a heart attack, but his family and Bersih 2.0 compatriots do not agree.

The inquest ended today with Dr Munizar as the sole witness. Proceedings shall resume tomorrow morning with the forensic pathologist who did the autopsy on Baharuddin to be called before the coroner.

A video viewing will also be held tomorrow, though no details of the footage to be screened were released.
