MCA taunts DAP over white 'ang pow' incident

As such, said MCA deputy Youth chief Dr Mah Hang Soon (left), the party should take responsibility for Ibrahim's actions at Perkasa’s Chinese New Year open house.
In a hard-hitting statement, Mah described DAP's criticism of MCA over the white ‘ang pow’ incident as "nothing more than slander and accusations".
"In opposite fact, PAS, with the help of DAP ... had put Ibrahim Ali in Parliament and thus, they are the ones who should bear the responsibility for his actions," he said.
Mah said Sri Desa MCA branch chairperson Dr Collin Tiew, who had been present at Perkasa’s open house, had taken responsibility by tendering a public apology and relinquishing all his party positions.
But, he noted, DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng has been deliberately silent on Ibrahim's election on a PAS ticket in the last general election.
"This topic has been deliberately left out and avoided by DAP and this shows that Lim has no sense of responsibility, unlike our own branch chair(person)."
Mah also defended MCA president Dr Chua Soi Lek's (right) statement that MCA will not ban its members from attending Perkasa's events, based on Lim’s challenge.
"Lim also claimed that MCA’s action in allowing its party members to attend Perkasa events will insult the dignity of the Chinese community, but the truth is that Lim and DAP are together colluding with PAS to implement hudud law for their own sake, sacrificing the interests of the Chinese community and non-Muslims in Malaysia.
"Therefore, the bigger culprit is actually DAP, which has sacrificed the interests of non-Muslims for its own intentions.”
‘Glaring mistakes’
On another matter, Selangor MCA Youth chief Kow Cheong Wei slammed Selangor exco Teresa Kok, alleging she has created confusion and misled the public in order to destroy MCA's reputation.
This was in reference to her dispute with Deputy Education Minister Wee Ka Siong over approval to build two Chinese school branches in Selangor.
Kow said the issue of land in building a branch each in SMJK Katolik in Petaling Jaya and SJKC Yak Chee in Puchong has been blown out of proportion.
He claimed that Kok (left) had made two glaring mistakes in her statements:
1. On Sept 23, she had reportedly said that the land allocated for the branches belongs to the state government.
“(If so), why didn’t the Selangor government directly approve the allocation of those two pieces of land? Why did it send a letter to the Education Ministry asking for approval to build the schools?” asked Kow.
2. The Selangor government had only supported the application of the new school branches, and had not given its approval. Also, the land currently belongs to the state education department, not the Land and Mines Department.
Kow (right) reiterated that the education ministry did not reject the applications for the two branches.
"Wee has very clearly pointed out in the beginning that the Selangor government has yet to apply for a permit as well as approve the land for both the branches... The Education Ministry has only received a letter supporting the application of the two pieces of land, and not the approval," he said.
To clarify the matter, Kow challenged Kok to produce proof of her correspondence with the ministry.
"I also urge the state government not to delay the construction of the two Chinese schools in Sungai Long and Kajang.
"The Selangor government is always trying to block the development of Chinese education, and I urge Kok to look into this matter instead of spreading (stories)," he added.
