Johor PAS today submitted a memorandum to the inspector-general of police urging that the investigation of the case involving arson against the property of Johor PAS deputy commissioner Dzulkifly Ahmad be transferred to Bukit Aman.

NONEAccording to the party’s state deputy commissioner Mazlan Aliman (left), this is to avoid undue influence from those who may have vested interests in the case.

“It’s not that we don’t trust the determination of the Johor police force and we appreciate that the case is being investigated by a task force led by the state police chief.

“But the case could be an assassination attempt by those who may have been affected by Dzulkifly’s statements in Johor, so we are concerned about it being investigated in the state,” he said when contacted.

He added that the matter should also be investigated by Bukit Aman to allay fears that it will result in no action, as had happened in cases of violent provocations at PAS ceramahs last year.

Set up special ‘sensitive cases’ unit

According to Mazlan, who submitted the memorandum with five other Johor PAS members, such cases should be probed by a special Bukit Aman unit set up to deal with “sensitive” cases dealing with racial, religious and political provocations.

These include incidents of desecration and vandalism of places of worship like the recent incidents of pigs’ heads found at several mosques.

“We don’t want our country to be dictated to by thugs who have influence over our national safety,” he said.

Johor PAS also called for the police to strengthen their intelligence units to collect more evidence in stemming activities which are racially, religiously or politically provocative.

“Immediately investigate, monitor and take legal action on individuals or groups who make racist statements and do not bow down to political pressure in ensuring peace and safety,” he said.

The memorandum was accepted on behalf of the IGP by Bukit Aman corporate communications officer Norisah Abdul Hamid.
