JB bans entertainment on Prophet's birthday

vox populi small thumbnailMalaysiasakit: Unless the public holiday is a mark of respect for the death of a state or national figure, the local authorities have no business telling people how to enjoy a day of rest so long as the activities are not illegal.

As this is a religious holiday, the religious bodies could remind the followers not to indulge in ‘worldly' entertainment and leave the non-followers alone. There is no need for the local council to play God.

Anonimous Z: Prophet Muhammad's birthday is for the Muslims. With due respect, it has nothing to do with non-Muslims.

Therefore, if necessary and really needed to, the ban should only be for the Muslim entertainment outlets. The authority has absolutely no right to force it on non-Muslims for it is illegal and is infringing  their basic constitutional rights.

Ben-ghazi: Islam has only two holy days as far my Islamic knowledge goes. They are the Raya Idul Fitr and Raya Idul Adha.

All other holidays in the name of Islam were not advocated by the Prophet Muhammad SAW. So I don't know whether this ban is accordance with Islam. What about the other days?

Appum: Shouldn't we rejoice at the double celebrations. Prophet Muhammad's birthday and Chinese New Year? How often do such nice situations occur together?

Ace: Now Johor voters will know that Umno is even more vicious than PAS. They will quietly impose their ‘Islamic' practices and lord over the rakyat whilst accusing Pakatan Rakyat of worse things.

Johor voters, you know what to do come the next elections.

MCA members free to attend Perkasa events

Anonymous: MCA, we beg to differ. Of course, MCA members are free to do as they wish, but to attend a function held by such a racist group, wouldn't it speak volumes what the party and its members stand for?

Taking it to the extreme, would the MCA chief say his members are free to attend functions held by Osama bin Laden or leader of Jemaah Islamiah? Why doesn't MCA bite the bullet and say sorry?

ONG: Party chief Chua Soi Lek boasts about democracy in MCA. If there really is democracy in MCA, Collin Tiew who confesses to having been an inactive member for a long time would not have been 'elected' (in reality 'made') a branch chief and a divisional committee member.

The way MCA democracy operates, some party big-shot decides which of their 'kaki' becomes branch and divisional chief and directives will go out instructing others not to contest.

For those who disobey, some tragedy will befall them. Remember how Soh Chee Wen used to get 'elected' to various MCA posts with compliments of then party boss Ling Liong Sik?

Geronimo: Chua Soi Lek, if you are so liberal with your members attending Perkasa events, then I don't see any reason why they cannot attend functions organised by PKR, DAP or PAS.

I'll bet that if any MCA member is caught, the next thing he or she will face is your disciplinary committee.

With your statement, doesn't that say a lot about your association with Perkasa, and about one racist party to another?

Kit P: Of course, we've suspected all along that MCA is working hand in glove with Perkasa, they being an Umno sub-contractor - like a tag team in a wrestling match.

'Even Umno man gave ang pow in white packets'

Nil: An ‘ang pow', given as an ‘ang pow', should always be red. An otherwise gift of money can be ‘wrapped' in any colour, with appropriate markings.

Since in Umno's case, the white packets are used throughout the year, they are accepted as common packets used to distribute gifts of money (which may not be ‘ang pows'), and so can be accepted.

In Perkasa's case, it was announced that they were ‘ang pows', and meant to be such, especially given in the context of the Chinese New Year celebration, and so should have been red instead of white, which was therefore in very bad taste and to the common people, these white packets were indeed an insult.

Kalijamaludin: Well, this will only prove that Umno and Perkasa are indeed brothers (abang adik).

Perkasa always look to Umno for guidance. Perkasa will execute whatever rubbish Umno instructs them to do. Perhaps Perkasa is paid by Umno to do things that Umno fears to do for political reasons.
