The Sessions Court in Kuala Lumpur today set two days from April 4 for the trial of businessman Shamsubahrin Ismail who is charged with cheating National Feedlot Corporation (NFC) chairperson Dr Mohamad Salleh Ismail of RM1.755 million.    

Judge Rozilah Salleh set the date when the case came up for mention today.

Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) prosecution unit chief Abdul Razak Musa told the court that the prosecution will call 15 witnesses.  

Shamsubahrin, 46, is charged with cheating Mohamad Salleh by purposely promising a consulting service with the intention to dishonestly induce Mohamad Salleh, who is NFC executive chairperson, to agree to pay for the service.

Shamsubahrin, who is chief executive officer of Samsulbahrin Resources Sdn Bhd, is charged with committing the offence at a restaurant in Bukit Tunku in Kuala Lumpur at 6 pm on Nov 20 last year.  

He is also charged with cheating Mohamad Salleh by deceiving him into surrendering cheques worth RM1.755 million. The offence was allegedly committed at Solaris Mont Kiara in Kuala Lumpur between Nov 25 and Dec 6 last year.

Both the charges were made under Section 420 of the Penal Code which provides for imprisonment of up to 10 years, with whipping and a fine, upon conviction.
