A 10-vehicle pile-up during lunch time caused a jam lasting more than three hours along Jalan Gelugor/Jalan Sultan Azlan Shah heading towards the city centre in George Town today.
A traffic police spokesperson said the pile-up resulted after a two-tonne lorry laden with sand suddenly stopped on the road.
“The lorry suffered a breakdown which caused it to stop moving,” he told reporters.
He said, however, no one was seriously injured in the incident and that those suffering injuries were given outpatient treatment at the Penang Hospital and nearby clinics.
He added that a fire and rescue team helped to bring out people who trapped in their vehicles.
