The Sessions Court in Petaling Jaya today set Feb 13 for mention of a case involving Constable V Navindran who had been ordered to enter his defence on two counts of causing hurt to detainee A Kugan, a suspected car thief.

Judge Hayatul Akmal Abdul Aziz set the date following a request by deputy public prosecutor Tengku Intan Suraya Tengku Ismail for a new mention date.

The case will be mentioned before Shah Alam Sessions Court judge Aslam Zainuddin, who  heard the case at the Petaling Jaya Sessions Court.

Navindran, 30, is charged with committing the offences at the D9 interrogation room of the Taipan USJ police station Subang Jaya between 7am and 4pm on Jan 16, 2009.

He is charged under Section 330 of the Penal Code which carries a term of imprisonment of up to seven years and a fine, if found guilty.

On Jan 19, 2009, Aslam had acquitted and discharged Navindran on a charge of causing grievous hurt on Kugan, who died while in police custody three years ago.
