Nine deaths were recorded on the eighth day of Ops Sikap yesterday, bringing the total death toll since the launch of the operation on Jan 16 to 93.

Six of those who were killed were motorcyclists. There were 973 accidents reported yesterday comprising 310 on municipal roads, 306 on federal roads, 170 on state roads, 124 on highways and 63 on other roads.

Police issued 17,736 summonses for various traffic offences yesterday, bringing the total to 138,574.

The ongoing operation in conjunction with the Chinese New Year ends on Monday.
