Ali Rustam: All parties must agree to declare assets

Malacca Chief Minister Mohd Ali Rustam said the move must be agreed to by all party members, including elected representatives, as it involves a number of things including safety.
“Some elected representatives don’t want to declare their assets as they will be made public and will threaten their safety and that of family members,” he told reporters at the Chinese New Year (CNY) celebrations organised by Malacca MCA at Pay Fong Secondary School Hall in Malacca today.
Ali, who is also an Umno supreme council member, was commenting on a statement by Kelantan Menteri Besar Nik Aziz Nik Mat who was willing to declare his assets to MACC if regulations say so.
Pertubuhan Angkatan Generasi Muda Melayu Kelantan (Agenda) vice-president Arif Hakimi Zulkifli had urged Nik Aziz and family members to declare their assets to MACC to ensure transparency.
Ali also said the state government will pay compensation amounting RM7.2mil this Thursday to ten stage coach bus companies that ceased operation due to financial problems.
The state government will take over management of stage coach buses operating under PMCT, a subsidiary of Chief Minister Incorporated, using the name Panorama from Feb 1.
“We have been interviewing all bus drivers and the buses will be converted in stages. So far we have ten new Panorama buses and 131 more will be added.”
He urged the people not to worry about stage coach bus services as they will be extended to all roads in the state.
The CNY event was attended by 5,000 people from all races who were treated to a variety of dishes such as nasi lemak, rendang, nasi himpit and traditional kuih.
