Fourteen deaths were recorded on the seventh day of Ops Sikap yesterday, nine of them involved motorcyclists.
This brings the total death toll since the launch of the operation on Monday to 84, police said in an update posted on its website.
There were 1,161 accidents reported yesterday, out of which 459 occurred on municipal roads, 298 on federal roads, 189 on state roads, 161 on highways and 54 on other roads.
A total of 18,722 summonses were issued yesterday, bringing the total to 120,838 since Monday. The operation ends on Jan 30.
Meanwhile, in KUALA TERENGGANU, nearly 500 express buses were inspected during the Ops Sikap so far.
Terengganu Road Transport Department director Abdul Rahman Emang Anyie said the department was satisfied with the bus operators’ compliance to the stipulated regulations.
