Umno vice-president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi rejects perception that the BN only has a 50-50 chance of winning back the states currently under the opposition in the next general election.

He said the perception was merely a product of a political analysis made in random.

NONE"Either BN or opposition, we all want to win. As for BN, we have to intensify our efforts to win the hearts of the people, not only by implementing physical developments, but also by giving aid and assistance, which are always deemed insufficient," Zahid said.

He was speaking to reporters after presenting the 1Malaysia People's Aid (BR1M) to 500 recipients in Bagan Datoh today.

Zahid, who is also defence minister and MP for Bagan Datoh, said BN had to come out with a new approach to win the hearts of the people and get to know the people's problems, regardless of their political beliefs.

BN leaders should also emulate the efforts taken by Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak in finding time to meet the people on the ground.

'Do not fall for opposition lies'

Zahid also called on the people not be fall for the lies spread by the opposition, which was keen on exploiting issues to achieve its political agendas.

The head of the School of Social Sciences at Monash University in Sunway, Petaling Jaya, James Chin, said on Jan 17 that there was "a 50-50 chance based on polling data that Pakatan Rakyat could lose Selangor and Kedah and the BN could lose Perak and Negeri Sembilan.

Chin also said that Penang and Kelantan appeared to be safe for the opposition, while Sabah and Sarawak would remain a fixed deposit for the ruling coalition, although the federal opposition could pick up seven to 11 parliamentary seats in Sarawak and six to eight in Sabah.

However, Chin told the Malaysia Strategic Outlook Conference 2012, that the polls data was too inconclusive to predict the overall outcome of the13th general election.
