MCA decries zero Indian leaders on Pakatan banners

MCA has lambasted Pakatan Rakyat for excluding Indian leaders in its banners promoting the opposition coalition’s 3rd annual convention in Alor Setar recently.

MCA has lambasted Pakatan Rakyat for excluding Indian leaders in its banners promoting the opposition coalition’s 3rd annual convention in Alor Setar recently.
Party vice-president Chor Chee Heung said that the exclusion “signals more impending harrows” under the opposition rule.
Kedah has been under a PAS-led government since 2008.
He added that the opposition wanted votes but could not care a “tuppence on respecting Indian stalwarts or caring for the Indian community’s welfare”.
Chor condemned the coalition for segregating members’ seating arrangements according to gender, saying that “DAP and PKR bigwigs could only sit and watch by, doing nothing”.
He added that Pakatan has taken the Indian representatives and their ballots for granted, while assuming that the community has no choice but to vote them in the coming general election.
“That the convention’s organisers could even marginalise DAP supremo Karpal Singh by excluding his picture montage from the official banner despite he being the chairman of DAP, and claims by the party and PKR to represent multi-racial interests sound flat.
“More likely Pakatan omitted Karpal’s image as they know he is just a figure head. Alternatively, PAS probably could not stand Karpal since he is the only DAP leader who is openly against hudud,” Chor added, in a statement.
Ambiga also not depicted on banners
On Monday, Malaysiakini reported the absence of an Indian Malaysian leader in the pictorial montage on banners strung along the route leading to the venue of the Pakatan event.
The banners depicted images of Anwar Ibrahim, Nik Aziz Nik Mat, Abdul Hadi Awang, Lim Kit Siang and Lim Guan Eng, but not of Karpal Singh or anyone else from the Indian leadership cohort of the fledgling coalition.
Chor said that Pakatan touted former Malaysian Bar Council chief S Ambiga as the face of Bersih 2.0, yet her picture was also not featured on the banner.
“Lim is even lower rank than Karpal, how much more will Pakatan ignore the presence and welfare of the Indian community as a whole?
“Is it the sort of acknowledgment that Anwar can offer Karpal despite the latter having staunchly defended the former throughout both sodomy trials as lead counsel,” he queried.
