PAS deputy spiritual leader Haron Din will soon join a ‘third force’ to redirect the party away from PAS spiritual leader Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat’s approach, pens senior Utusan Malaysia editor Zaini Hassan in a column today.

NONENik Abdul Aziz’s current approach, he says, tends to placate the party’s coalition partners in Pakatan Rakyat.

Haron (right), who is the number two figure in the party’s highest decision-making body, the syura council - will counter Nik Abdul Aziz who has become "a liability due to his deep hatred for Umno", said Zaini.

"So long as he (Haron) remains in PAS, he will try to change the approach brought by Nik Abdul Aziz," he wrote.

Zaini said former Selangor PAS commissioner Hasan Ali, who was early this month sacked by his party, will be the “vehicle” for this movement which will be set up in February.

Shortly after Hasan’s sacking, Haron had urged the former to appeal to the syura council.

NONEZaini (left) questioned whether PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang was made to sack Hasan, and speculated that Abdul Hadi as well as Kedah Menteri Besar Azizan Abdul Razak may also be uncomfortable with Nik Abdul Aziz’s approach.

Furthermore, Hasan will be backed by other senior PAS leaders such former PAS deputy president Nasharudin Mat Isa, he said.

"Nasharudin, who is now a PAS central committee member and a member of the syura council, will also play a crucial role in this 'third force'," he added.

'Umno and PAS as power brokers'

azlanNasharudin had yesterday reiterated his call for dialogue between Umno and PAS.

Meanwhile, from outside PAS, Hasan will lead the charge to destroy the “parasites” in the Islamic party and “free Selangor from DAP’s grip”, said Zaini.

The movement, he said, intends to allow PAS and Umno to become the main power brokers in the country.

“Malay fence-sitters will be this wave’s target to ensure that power is achieved.

“This wave will receive strong support from ulama and academicians,” said Zaini.

The movement, he added, will be joined by several Independent MPs including Kulim-Bandar Baharu MP Zulkifli Noordin who was sacked by PKR in 2010.
