Meru assemblyperson Dr Rani Osman appears to be a favourite to replace Hasan Ali as the new Selangor exco member, after the latter had been dropped from the post after being sacked from PAS.

NONEIt is believed that Rani’s (right) position in PAS as state commissioner and his experience as the deputy chairperson of the Backbencher’s Club puts him at the top of the list of candidates.

The other candidates in the running are Sijangkang assemblyperson  Ahmad Yunus Hairi and Bangi assemblyperson Shafie Abu Bakar.

Barring any surprises, it would be Rani who is likely to be sworn into office before Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah tomorrow morning.

The other candidate, Ahmad Yunus, is presently assistant exco member in charge of Youth and Sports, a portfolio presently held by Menteri Besar Khalid Ibrahim.

Shafie is a veteran in Selangor and was formerly deputy to Hasan when the latter was PAS commissioner.

If Rani is appointed, he is expected to attend the state’s exco meeting for the first time tomorrow and Khalid will likely announce the appointment to the media after that.

Rani had last week reportedly said he hoped not to replace Hasan out of concern that he would be unable to bear the responsibility as an exco member.

However, he said the final decision lies with the party’s top leadership and Selangor PAS would adhere to it.
