“TI-M (also) urges all other elected and public officials, whether government, opposition or independent, to make full public disclosure of assets upon assuming office and at regular fixed intervals thereafter,” its president Paul Low said in a statement.
To provide a full picture of their assets, they must also fully disclose all liabilities, borrowing and debts.
This will go a long way towards improving the confidence of the people and foreign investors in Malaysian integrity, accountability and good governance, Low noted.
TI-M said it is encouraged by the assets disclosure by Penang officials last week.
This is the second such initiative by the Pakatan-led states, with Selangor exco members having led the way.
The chief justice’s proposal for judges to declare their assets was also lauded. The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission is now looking into this.
