Pakatan's march to Putrajaya paved with obstacles

Ksn: This question of smooth transition of power was first raised by DAP supremo Lim Kit Siang without any response from PM Najib Razak.

The same question was raised again directly to Najib at the Royal Selangor Club, and he refused to answer.

I am a little confused why the question is asked in the first place. Is it being implied in the question that assuming the opposition wins the majority of federal seats, Najib and Umno-BN can still hold on to power?

Is it also being said that Najib can hold on to power by illegal, undemocratic methods by using or abusing the army, police, etc? Then why hold the elections at all?

Loyal Malaysian: So Najib dared not even answer a hypothetical question as to the whether the Umnoputras would honour a rakyat's mandate for a change of government. Very ominous indeed.

Sadirah: The issue in a democracy is that the election winner gets to form the government. Should the BN deny this right then it would be the blackest mark on their credentials and their respect for democracy.

It is not the BN that determines who is to be at Putrajaya. This is the people's choice and if they cannot honour the wishes of the people then the rakyat will walk and the Malaysian spring will be visible globally.

No amount of coercion can defeat people's power, especially when the results are clear. It would be good for wise counsel and minds to prevail so that BN does what is fair and right.

The fact that the PM did not reply to this question is a stain on his credibility. Is 50 years of misrule not enough?

Anonymous_3f55 Now we know, Najib is a coward. As the Malay saying goes, throw the stone and hide the hand.

His 2010 Umno speech was mere ‘sandiwara'. When it comes to just answering a simple question related to his speech, he dodges the question.

I think the rakyat should rise and ask him this question on the smooth power transition at any opportunity available, especially when there's a Q&A (question-and-answer) session with him.

Continue to embarrass him as his true colours are beginning to show. He is good at creating the right perception and so-called feel-good sentiment. But in the end, it's only form but no substance.

Just like SARA 1Malaysia, BR1M, KR1M - it's all hogwash. Maybe he should even suggest that Malaysia from now on be renamed ‘Malays1a'.

Ferdtan: So it goes beyond mere rhetoric when PM declared at 2010 Umno general assembly: "Even if our bodies are crushed and our lives lost, brothers and sisters, whatever happens, we must defend Putrajaya."

By not answering a direct question from the audience whether he, as a PM, would ensure a smooth transition of the government for Pakatan if the opposition were to win in the next GE, he must be serious and meant what he said earlier in the Umno assembly.

The rakyat now want to issue a warning to our PM - if there are any untoward incidents occurring if opposition were to win the power, we will know who is responsible. The rakyat will not allow it to happen, not to our beloved country.

Onyourtoes: The constitution provides for election of federal and state governments. So long as elections are called, we must all assume that there will be victors and losers. To assume otherwise only give credence and encouragement to those who have evil intentions.

We shall cross the bridge when we come to it. This would be the best under the present circumstances.

Great Emperor: If you ask me, Najib is going to do whatever it takes to remain in power from rigging the elections to suspending the election results if he is defeated, or stop Pakatan from meeting the king to from the new government.

He would probably declare martial law at the expense of the economy, the public and the Malays whom he claims to defend. He is there for himself and would not let go that easily, even at the expense of destroying the economy.

That's what he means by defending Putrajaya. I hope the military and police, as well as the grassroots of BN, would not go along with this.

FellowMalaysian: I am amused over the incident that Najib encountered in his speech at RSC (Royal Selangor Club).

Not so much because he was accosted and caught unprepared for an answer to such a paradox, but more bemused that someone could be valiant enough to ask him such a question.

Lest it reminds him that the takeover by the opposition could be a possibility, albeit a remote one.

And of course, his unpreparedness in answering the astute person's question showed he is fully confident of BN reigning over Putrajaya in the next election and handing over power has never occurred in his mind.

M Suresh Kumar: Empty vessels make most noise. A racist group promised to counter the Bersih rally with 5,000 members but ended up with only 50. Its leader was absent on that day as well as on Jan 9.

Ponder on that. It definitely is not going to be his last drop of blood that will fall in defending Putrajaya for he will be on board his private jet at the earliest flight out of Malaysia.
