Jan 31 decision on Shahnaz's mutaah claim

The Syariah High Court in Kuala Lumpur today set Jan 31 for decision of a RM100 million mutaah (consolatory gift after a divorce) claim filed by Sarawak Chief Minister Abdul Taib Mahmud’s former daughter-in-law, Shahnaz A Majid.
Shahnaz had filed the applications to get RM300 million in matrimonial property and RM100 million in mutaah in February last year.
The Syariah High Court in Kuala Lumpur today set Jan 31 for decision of a RM100 million mutaah (consolatory gift after a divorce) claim filed by Sarawak Chief Minister Abdul Taib Mahmud’s former daughter-in-law, Shahnaz A Majid.
Syariah Chief judge Muhammad Abdullah set the date after hearing submissions by lawyer Saadiah Din, who represented Shahnaz’s former husband, Mahmud Abu Bekir Abdul Taib, and Shahnaz’s lawyer, Dr Mohd Rafie Mohd Shafie.
“The applicant (Shahnaz) has been given a week from today to enter the final submission, and Jan 31 is set for decision on the several applications made by the applicant,” said Muhammad.
Among the applications filed by Shahnaz, 49, in the mutaah claim was for a show cause notice to be served on Mahmud Abu Bekir, 49, for allegedly failing to abide with a court order.
On the same day, the court will also decide Mahmud Abu Bekir’s application to set aside the show cause notice.
Shahnaz, sister of jazz singer Sheila Majid, had filed the applications to get RM300 million in matrimonial property and RM100 million in mutaah in February last year.
On Ag 5, she was granted leave by the Syariah High Court to commence committal proceedings against her ex-husband over documents relating to his assets.
The properties which Shahnaz wants the court to declare as joint properties include several houses, land in Sarawak and also in Bukit Tunku in Kuala Lumpur and several luxury cars.
The couple, who married on Jan 9, 1992, were divorced on May 11 last year.
They have a son, Raden Murya, 19.
