Police have nabbed a 24-year-old University Sains Malaysia (USM) undergraduate over his Facebook posting which purportedly was a threat to harm Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak.

According to Star Online, the student had wrote: “Najib is coming to our campus... let’s bomb his helicopter...”.

George Town police chief Gan Kong Meng said that the student brought in for questioning at around 1.30pm today.

“Police are investigating the case under Section 506 of the Penal Code for criminal intimidation. He was earlier picked up at his campus in Nibong Tebal.

“The case is pending further investigations. We will announce if there is any development,” he told Star Online.

The police had acted on a report lodged at the Jelutong police station in which a screenshot of the student’s Facebook posting was appended.

According to Bernama, Najib is scheduled to visit the USM campus next week.

State police chief Ayub Yaakob confirmed the arrest when contacted by Bernama and said a news conference on the matter would be held tomorrow.
