More people have been evacuated in the east coast of peninsular Malaysia as floods hit Terengganu this morning, raising the number of evacuees in Terengganu, Kelantan and Pahang to 1,011.

Up to 290 people were moved to five relief centres in the Setiu district in Terengganu.

Pahang has 445 evacuees at four relief centres in the Kuantan and Pekan districts while Kelantan has 276, also at four relief centres, in the Kuala Krai district.

Some rivers in Terengganu and Kelantan are still swollen while a road in Pahang remains closed to light vehicles.

In TERENGGANU, The Terengganu state government portal reported that the 290 evacuees are being housed at Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Kuala Besut, Kampung Besut community hall, Permaisuri old market, Kampung Besut surau and Seladang community hall.

The State Drainage and Irrigation Department reported that level of the Setiu River in Kampung Langkap had dropped to the warning point after it had risen to the danger point yesterday and burst its banks.

In PAHANG, a spokesperson of the Pahang Police Flood Operations Room said 323 of the evacuees in the state are from Kampung Cenderawasih in the Pekan district, and they are being accommodated at SK Sinar Mutiara.  

The other 122 evacuees are from six villages in the Kuantan district, and are being housed at the Panching community hall, Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Gudang Rasau and the Cherating community hall, he told Bernama.

He said a stretch at Km28 of Jalan Sungai Riau-Sungai Lembing remains closed to light vehicles as it is under 0.2 metres of water.

In KELANTAN, a spokesperson of the State Flood Operations Room said the number of evacuees rose to 276 from 173 overnight in the Kuala Krai district.

He said they were being accommodated at SK Yuk Chai, Sekolah Menengah Teknik Kuala Krai, SMK Laloh and SK Manek Urai Lama.

The spokesperson said the levels of the Kelantan River at Kusial, Tanah Merah, and the Golok River at Rantau Panjang were above the danger points and this can cause floods in low-lying areas.

The sky is overcast in Kelantan with intermittent drizzle.
